"My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me."

Every new year holds a chance for change. The attainment of unfulfilled desires, opportunities, and aspirations. We can start new, start over. We see it as a second chance spiritually. We think we can re-energize our relationship with Christ. Suddenly restart. Attain the peak we felt in our early years of following Christ. We tell ourselves this year we're going to read the bible all the way through, go to church every Sunday, volunteer in the church.
But what is this "we" talk.
Do we really think we're the ones deciding it's time to refocus on God. How very arrogant of us!
The Father is the one who calls us, draws us. We do not initiate the relationship, he does. He planned our salvation before the world was even made. Trust me, he initiated it. What were suppose to do? Respond.
Maybe this feeling of wanting to reconnect, is not that, but instead, the holy spirit stirring inside of us because God is calling. Calling us close to him so that we can relax, have peace, be loved, love, and know him deeper. We re-initiating the relationship so we can be better, feel better. God in initiating it because he knows what we need. And whether you recognize it or not, that is Him.
The discontent, disappointment is not a result of a sub par year, it is the result of separation. Whether it is due to distractions, obligations, or trials, we walked away from our personal relationship with God, in order to deal with the world and its distractions, obligations, and trials by ourselves. And you know what it happens and you know what else, its frustrating. We get to a point where we can hear God, and feel God, then we find ourselves in what feels like silence. We take that silence to mean, we're on our own, we need to handle it ourselves. But sometimes that silence in for growth. In that silence we learn patience, we learn what it means to have faith.
So this new years, don't fool yourself into thinking YOU are going to start a new relationship with Christ. Think about why CHRIST is calling you now. Even when it feels like we are the ones pursuing Christ, he is the one holding us in his right hand, drawing us near.
