My posts from Honduras are finally over. I know it's taken me a while to finalize that fact. I've been working 46 hours a week since I've been home and I can honestly say I'm exhausted. After giving everything I had to offer emotionally in Honduras, I came home and I have been giving all I have physically.
My very last journal entry:
"I can't believe we're leaving. I'm suppose to be going 'home'. But I thought home was 'where the heart is'. My heart is here in Honduras, dwelling, clinging to the mountains like the clouds, twisting and maneuvering through the clutter of brightly covered houses, holding the hands of the children abused and abandoned. How can I leave?"
It's definitely hard being home. There are moments where I have just surrender myself to a flood of tears. Despite all that I have left in Honduras, including my heart, I have taken a few things home:
- Memories of the sweet faces I met and packed into my heart.
- An apperciation for cold water, and ice.
- How to love unrestrained, unconditionally, and passionately.
- A desire for justice.
- A bigger heart for the poor.
- A sense of responsibility in what I allow myself to watch and listen to.
- Deeper knowledge of how big our God is.
- Renewed faith in God's ability to provide, and conduct miracles.
"God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but wants all people to change their hearts and lives."
- 2 Peter 3:9
"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word."
- 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

ReplyDeleteI just found you through Jessica's blog. I'll admit - I clicked over because you mentioned you were in Honduras, and I am part-Honduran (and get more than rationally excited every time I see mention of it). I love your imagery in your last journal entry. I'm about to read all your posts about your time in Honduras - so excited to hear about your experience!
